The World's Best All-Weather Sports Surface

Pictured at right, Nova’s representative reviews the Chinese Nova brochures with potential customers at the Sports Show held in Beijing this past summer.

Know the true value of time; snatch, seize, and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness; no laziness, no procrastination: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.

To recognize the efforts of small business owners and their contribution to the local economy (making up 95% of the employment in Hawaii), Pacific Business News, the publication for all businesses in the state, conducts a survey of their growth.  We are pleased to share with you that Pacific Recreation Co. LLC of Honolulu was rated the 17th fastest growing small business in the state!  We are thankful to Ned J. Nuding, President of Pacific Rec., and his partner, Tom Welch, for sharing this with us.

Q.  “When you started your business, did you have a formal plan or was it more improvisational? What advice do you have in retrospect?”  --Pacific Business News

A.  “When I started the business I brought in a partner with complementary experience. We then started with an improvisational plan that was constantly changing and evolving with market trends and competition. My advice to any new start-up company is: know your market, keep overhead as low as possible, surround yourself with quality people and treat your customer the way you would want to be treated.”  --Ned J. Nuding

Seven hundred Copper Ridge Elementary School students form the letters to spell out “THANKS” on the school’s new track.  Volunteers raised more than $50,000 to build the 200-meter, five-lane track.

The track was surfaced with Green Novatrack by Baseline Sports Construction of Knoxville, TN, this past summer.  The track was pictured on the front page of The Knoxville News-Sentinel.  It can also be seen on our website as September’s Photo of the Month.  A BIG thanks to David Clapp for sending us this photo!

Next time you call Nova, chances are you’ll get Stacy Grant.  Stacy joined Team Nova in October as Administrative Assistant.  She took the place of Kristine who recently left Nova after having a baby boy, Joshua, weighing in at a whopping 9 lbs 7ozs.  (…and in this corner!)

Stacy has a five-year-old son, Braden, in kindergarten who tends to keep her pretty busy!

The Jimmy Fund supports the fight against cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for children and adults with cancer around the world.  Since 1948, hundreds of events, coupled with the generosity of thousands of people, have helped the Jimmy Fund save countless lives by furthering cancer research and care at Dana-Farber.

Bill Righter and his family raised over $8,000 this year in support of the Jimmy Fund!

Ø      When coating indoors, be sure you have proper ventilation.  Make sure that you exchange the air between coats (dehumidifiers, fans and air conditioning can help).  But be careful not to lower the temperature too much.  The air conditioner works similarly to the dehumidifier, drying the air.  Too much evaporated water condenses on ceilings and rafters collecting dust, and may cause it to rain indoors, which may permanently stain your surface.  Also, keep the same in mind during the summertime when humidity is very high.

2001 is going by like greased lightning.  This year I have so many things to give thanks for.  Not necessarily in order of importance:

ü      Our move is behind us and we have a spectacular new facility.

ü      Nova’s sales are up…big time.

ü      My grandson, Joey, is close to a complete victory over his leukemia.

ü      His brother, Greg, has been inducted into The National Honor Society.  At his request, I was his sponsor.

ü      Ruth and I are enjoying more and more time on Cape Cod.

ü      It was a great fishing season.

ü      We have a great staff—without exception.

The horrible events of September 11 seem to have bound all of us together in a way that I haven’t seen since I was a kid during World War Il.  Even though everyone is saddened by the tragedy, the feeling of togetherness is pleasant.  I hope it continues.

As of today, I have not seen any notices of price advances on raw materials.  It’s been years since I could say that.  Of course, there have been no notifications of a reduction in prices.

The sales outlook for next year seems very positive.  We have had many contractors tell us they have significant work signed up.

If you are ever in Massachusetts and have some time to spare, we welcome your visit.  I’m proud of our plant and think you would enjoy seeing how we produce the very best acrylic surfacing materials.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2002.

We look forward to serving you in the future.
